Background

Our firm was established as Lawson, McGrenere, Wesley, Jarvis & Rose in 1978. After the appointment of Peter Jarvis as a Justice of the Ontario Court (General Division) in 1992, we evolved to our current form, Lawson McGrenere LLP. There are currently 27 lawyers, 14 of whom are partners and 2 counsel, R. Bruce Lawson and W. Thomas McGrenere. Our senior partners have practised in the areas of general and insurance litigation for over 30 years.

Over the years, our lawyers have appeared in courts and administrative tribunals at all levels and in all areas of the Province. We are involved in all aspects of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) proceedings. Our partners are often retained as mediators or arbitrators by dispute resolution organizations. 3 partners have been certified as Specialists in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada.

We are frequently invited to lecture at seminars and continuing education programs. Our lawyers are involved extensively in Bar organizations and have held office with Canadian Bar Association (Ontario), County of York Law Association, Defence Research Institute (Canada) and The Advocates Society. Many of us belong to the American Trial Lawyers Association and Defence Research Institute to monitor litigation trends in the United States.

We endeavour to keep our clients current with developments in the law which affect their business. In consultation with clients, we frequently arrange workshops and seminars on specific legal topics or litigation management issues.
